The Civilian Orientation Manual is a nonfiction series for veterans navigating the shift into civilian employment. It is built on a single, clarifying premise: most of the friction veterans encounter after service is not personal failure. It is the predictable result of entering a differently structured system without a map.

Drawing on the Applied Systems Transition framework, developed from doctoral research on post-9/11 veterans, it teaches readers to read organizations structurally, identify the signals that shape how decisions get made, and navigate civilian environments with the same deliberate competence they brought to service.

The Applied Systems Transition (AST) Framework is a research-based model developed to explain how civilian institutions actually function, and why veterans, family members, and professionals transitioning from military service so often encounter unexpected friction inside them.

It teaches users to identify how decisions are made, how accountability is assigned, and how authority flows.
